Yes, my 4 year old had this to say to me this morning after she was done with her school 🙂

I have no idea what brought it on. She just turned to me after packing up her books and said with the sweetest smile, “Mama, you are now a little fat.” And proceeds to stick out her tummy just a little bit to demonstrate what she meant. 🙂

Too funny!

  1. Oh my, the things children say! Mine recently noticed my belly pooch and commented about it, but I have an excuse. I’m three months pregnant. 😉

  2. Did you read about pregnant woman dieting and trying to look trim at the expense of the health of their children? It was recently featured in the papers last week.

That’s really self-centred IMO!! Putting the health of their unborn children at risk.

    • Hi Valerie! No I didn’t read that article. I am not surprised since I personally know someone who did that. Irony is that while she looked trim during pregnancy she did not post partum! 🙂

      • Val – ya. She put on weight after the bb. So kinda wasted her effort during her pregnancy. Society places a lot of emphasis on being thin. Check out the daily ads placed by slimming centres in the newspapers.

  3. huh? What do you mean? You mean she grew fat after birth? Well, this article says the lady delivered prematurely, and the baby would likely have problems in future like ADD or autism. Babies are so precious. Just don’t understand how one could be so selfish and place your needs above that of the growing foetus.

  4. Hi Serene,

Personally I can’t imagine why anyone would want to diet during pregnancy. I thought it was a great time to enjoy eating and not worry about the growing belly! (within reasonable means of course). Hm for that matter, since I am still nursing, I am still enjoying the benefits of having an excellent appetite without having to really watch the weight! 😉

  5. Hi iwonderbee,

My sentiments exactly. I put on 20 kg whilst pregnant and thoroughly enjoyed it.

serene is right, society places so much emphasis on being thin and looking good. But we all know that that is not all important.

  6. Like Tammy, I’m a few months pregnant – and the kids are noticing too. I watch my diet extremely carefully during weeks 20+ in pregnancy because I’m diabetic. The effect of extreme diet watching always bites me back after the baby is born because I’m free! of having to watch the carbohydrates and I begin to eat a little of everything I was feeling so deprived of.

The am ready willing and able to sacrifice to get my children hear safely and in a healthy fashion, but I don’t sacrifice nearly as well for my own weight and long term health. I have work yet to do.

    • KelliSue I know where you are coming from. When one of my dds had a bad attack of hives I went off all foods suspected to be causing the problem. I felt better & even lost weight! But the moment she was ok, I went back to my poor eating choices 🙁
