I have been listening to podcasts and browsing various functional medicine websites to learn more about how we can battle our health issues more effectively. And it is interesting how they all conclude with the same thing :

  • eat real food
  • ditch the processed foods
  • cut out refined sugars and avoid artificial sweeteners like the plague
  • sleep 8 hours a night
  • exercise regularly

So simple and yet so hard to implement!

But I am motivated to keep our family eating clean even when the allergies we are battling do not seem to be eradicated. Why? Because if we don’t, it is only a matter of time before our bodies fall prey to even more serious illnesses. Already, having allergies mean that our bodies aren’t functioning properly, so even more care must be taken to care for our bodies. Coz we all know that prevention is better than cure, right?

I am not saying that if we stick to the above “rules” we will never fall sick or can avoid all the major diseases but we should do the responsible thing by not putting junk food into our bodies on a regular basis. And self-medicating to suppress the effects of poor choices shouldn’t be done either!

Sooner or later our poor lifestyle and diet choices will catch up on us and this is what I am trying to teach the children. Of course they don’t pay much attention since they would rather stuff their faces with pizzas and ice cream rather than choose a salad and steak! But I press on because it is to their health benefit that we eat the way we eat even though they do not like it. And if Jesus doesn’t come soon, it will be to their children’s health that they eat better 🙂
