You how people love to offer advice when they see pregnant women or women with young children? Well, it truly annoys me. Especially when it comes from people who have little or no expertise!

Yes, unsolicited advice is a pet peeve of mine. πŸ™

Let me give you some examples. And since I am pregnant, all the examples willΒ of course be of advice that pertains to pregnant women πŸ™‚

  1. Someone who has birthed only via c-sections telling me that birthing a baby with a 36cm head circumference vs a 34 cmΒ head circumference is no big deal.
  2. Someone who has never gone overdue telling me to be patient when I was 6 days overdue.
  3. Someone who’s never gone into labour naturally telling me to be patient when I was overdue.
  4. Someone who tells me that I couldn’t possibly get pregnant since I am nursing.
  5. Someone who insists that I am having a boy baby.
  6. Someone who insists that I should have the traditional Malay urut massage so that my tummy can be flat as a washboard. Mind you this is someone whose tummy is as flabby as flabby can be who HAD the massage!
  7. Someone telling me to pray/walk/have relations with dh/call the baby out/etc… for the baby to be birthed.

But mostly I am annoyed at people who keep telling me to be patient when I am big, heavy and highly irritatble. Of course I know I have to be patient. Like what else can I do, right?! And yes, I have prayed – with all the last 3 babies.

Whatever natural methods out there, I have tried. Except taking blue and black cohosh and castor oil – YUCKS! Trust me, if the baby is not due, she is not due.

I don’t want solutions. I just want sympathy πŸ™‚

6 Comments on Unwanted Advice

  1. Uh… and there is 1 unwanted question : “Haven’t deliver yet ah?” πŸ˜‰

This is certainly one of the questions that I hated to hear! πŸ˜›

Although I know at times, such remark is like saying “Hello”, but for sensitive due pregnant women, it can be irritating πŸ˜›

    • sigh. yes that’s another annoying one for sure! Esp from women who are mothers! πŸ™ Well, in the days/weeks leading up to the birth I’ve great practice in biting my tongue!

  2. the ones tt got my goat during my 3rd pregnancy was the “you’re so big” comments eg, “you’re still around? you’re so big, you look like you’re going to pop anytime!” and “are you sure you’re not having twins??” – this was during my 7th month only. grrr!

i hope i was not among the ones who got you irritated with unsolicited advice.

    • and what tops it all off is that these women who make these unhelpful comments are unmarried ones! Like – excuse me, let’s see what you look like when you are pregnant! No lah Ee Lin you didn’t annoy me πŸ™‚

  3. Serene, I thought #6 was hilarious!!! Haha.

    OK, here’s mine:

During my 2nd pregnancy, I was HUGE (which was really strange cos baby was really tiny) and everyone was asking me, “Are you sure you’re not going to deliver soon?”, from 35 weeks onwards.

  4. Here’s mine too:

When I am so tired and big, people tell me its a good thing that the baby is still a “Confined” problem. “It’ll only get worse!”. I hate that remark!! I know it’ll be different but it isn’t easy being heavy, big and clumsy!!!
