The smile that brightens our day
The smile that brightens our day

Our 7th blessing on earth is 6 months old today! And it has been a ride thus far 🙂

She constantly reminds me that I know next to nothing about babies and their kind 🙂 Keeps me humble I say! Just coz something worked with the other 6 babies doesn’t mean it will work with her. Thankfully I can count on the older children to help me out. They have matured so much since her arrival which is a nice side benefit of having a baby in the house!

Ever since she burst forth into the world at a whopping 4.3kg (drug free, doctor free 🙂 ) 6 months ago at home, she’s been in a rush. For what I am not exactly sure though 🙂 She could flip over, either way at 3months, could get herself on all-fours crawling position by 4month and crawled (properly, not commando style) at 5.5 months. She could also pull herself up to a standing position at the same time. And in the last week sits very steadily by herself! Now if only she would remember to bend her knees when she wants to get down instead of holler for us to help her! Lol!

Look at me!
Look at me!

She constantly amazes me with her physical progress.

And then there’s her smile. She always melts our hearts with her beaming, ear-to-ear grins in the mornings no matter what time it is! And her blissed out look when she’s done nursing. She’s really a joy to us. So blessed that God sent her our way.

Yes, despite the lack of sleep, the sacrifice of abstaining from coffee, tea and rootbeer floats and countless interruptions during school 🙂

Thank you Lord that you sent her our way. May we raise her to fear you and serve you all the days of her life and bring glory to Your Name!

  1. I’ve never had a baby that smiles when he/she wakes, whether morning or otherwise. Only screams/cries. our youngest is such an opposite from yours. He’s so developmentally delayed physically compared to the older 3 who among them were sitting at 4mths, walking at 10. Even cognitively, I find him delayed eg. all the older ones could wave bye-bye, point to what they want or parts of their body by 8mths. This one can only start doing at 1yr, and point to parts of his body – well, cannot until recently.

  2. But he reads! And he chuckled so cutely in that video you posted on FB 🙂 Actually your others are fast. Mine don’t usually sit til 6mths and walk at one.

  3. Yes, he reads, but only bc we gave him such stimulus. That’s why I think it’s not exceptional. And if a more developmentally advanced child were given the same 2-5min stimulus each day, he/she would be way more able to read than Jacob.

  4. Happy 6th Month Anna Joy!

This post and your conversation above with sam just emphasises to me again how different babies are, even those in the same family. But one thing’s for sure each and every one is truly a joy and a blessing.

I’m having tons of fun with no. 3, too. I call him a walking comedy! lol! Everytime he toddles into sight, everything he does (well, almost everything) just makes us smile n laugh.

I wish Anna Joy (and all of you, together with her) lots of joy (of course!), fun and laughter in the months and years ahead!

  5. 6 months already! Grace is five months today and she’s such a sweetie, truly a joy to our family. Worth every minute of pregnancy :o) And so far adjusting to the new school year well.

I would say you have your hands full! None of our babies can even roll at four months, much less crawl. We have 16 month walkers around here, which actually makes life easier, so I can’t complain. I’ve not noticed any correlation between physical milestones and cognitive development though with our children. Our babies reach those physical milestones late, but so far, all of our children do well in school :o)

What is this reading as an infant you are talking about?

  6. Ahh….smilly and joyful baby!! I am feeling the same with my dd.

My dd will smile and make friends with everyone esp when she is in her highchair or shopping cart etc that everyone will come over to coo at her! She will catch their attention even though they are seated far away and engage them. So sociable and different from my son. I am wondering if its just boy and girl thing or individual baby?

All the best and enjoy her! She’s definitely a blessing!

  7. haha Shyla…Serene’s talking about my baby, who’s not so “infant” anymore. He’s 13mo and can read, that’s all. I wasn’t just talking about physical milestones per se, but cognitive development shown through actions like waving, pointing and such that show understanding. I’ve noticed that this baby is generally does all this 3 to 4mths later than his elder 3 siblings.

And yeah, the older ones do do fairly ok academically. These are just observations – which parent doesn’t notice the differences in their children, yah?

  8. This comes a tad too late, Happy 6th month Anna. I know it’s a bit cliche but time flies when you are having fun and joy!

Mine just turned 4mo, she starting to show signs of flipping over. Soon I won’t be able to leave her unattended for too long…

Well, continue to enjoy the baby… Have fun.:)
