Once in a while, I get inspired enough to drag my sewing machine out of the store room  and sew some stuff for either myself or the children. One day while checking my blog’s stats, I came across The Cheeky Wife‘s blog which had lots of sewing links on its sidebars. I clicked on a few and chanced upon I Have To Say‘s blog which had an easy tutorial on how to sew a cute little tote bag.

Wow! It got my brains going into an overdrive 😀 I immediately went to dig out my stash of fabric to see if I have enough to sew some bags for my girls to carry this Chinese New Year. After adjusting the measurements a little, I managed to find enough fabric to sew 4 bags for the 4 older girls! No, the baby doesn’t get her own bag – yet!

It is really easy to do and so gratifying to see my girls carrying bags that I sewed for them. I think they were pretty pleased with the bags too 🙂

And since my sewing machine was out, I decided to sew each child their own library bag as well. So far, we’ve been carrying our library books in 2 to 3 recyclable bags. This meant that the older 3 often ended up lugging 8 to 12 books each which can get pretty heavy. So I thought that if each carried their own books, that would make it a little bit more fair 🙂

I looked up The Little Library Tote Tutorial and again made my own adjustments and ended up with these.

I even attempted to do a variation of the library tote and ended up with this!

And since I had some leftover fabric, I sewed this as a playbag for the almost 5year old.

Now she’s asking for a white bag and a matching white skirt as her birthday present! Hmm…another trip to Spotlight is due real soon since her birthday is 10 days away and I can only sew when the baby is asleep.
