You wouldn’t believe how convincing these practise BHs were early this morning (40 weeks 1 day)! I really thought I was going to be holding the little one at 7am!

The night before, I had regular contractions, 15 minutes apart starting at 8pm. It continued unabated whether I was standing, sitting, washing the dishes, etc… I finally fell asleep past midnight, still experiencing contractions every 15 minutes apart.

At 2am, I was rudely awakened with a very different type of contraction : strong and and very intense. They lasted about 30 to 45 seconds long. From 2am to 4am, the contractions went on & on regardless of how I lay down. The contractions were strong, intense and powerful enough to cause me to break out in cold sweat from the intensity.

If I had been a 1st time mom who didn’t know any better, I would have rushed to the hospital or called the dr in panic! Instead, as I waited for the contractions to move closer to 7 or 5 minutes apart, I went downstairs to make myself a hot drink and to email some friends to pray for me.

Btw, it pays to have friends who live on the other side of the world coz they’d be wide awake while friends in Singapore would most likey be comatose 🙂 Well, except Angie who doesn’t sleep!

Anyhow, as I sat at the computer, all contractions stopped. No matter if I walked or sat. NOTHING happened! So frustrating!

So I went back up to try to sleep. Then the contractions re-started but they were nothing like the ones before and they went back to being 15 minutes apart again. I finally fell asleep at 5:30am and woke up at 8am with a terrible headache from the lack of sleep.

This morning, I spoke with a friend who’s training to be a doula. She, of course said that it’s all perfectly normal and that it means that labour will start soon. Ha! I knew that! She offered the usual concoction of stuff that I could try to get labour going but I would have none of it coz deep down I knew that if it wasn’t time, it wasn’t time. Period. Oh and she said that I may very well experience the same thing tonight. Oh man! If this keeps up, I am going to be one very tired mama by the time I birth 🙁

So instead of sitting at home and eyeballing the clock, we went shopping instead. Yes, the whole gang 🙂 Dh bought his year’s supply of shirts and me, another stash of nursing bras* at the John Little’s 20% storewide sale.

* If you are looking for comfortable, affordable and basic nursing bras, may I recommend the Eternity brand to you? At $9.90 per piece (before discount), they are a steal! And I understand from the friend who recommended them to me, they are now sold at BHG too! They are available in beige, brown and pink. The lace ones ($12.90) are available in beige, pink and cream.

6 Comments on Diary of Pregnancy #7 – A False Alarm

  1. I DO sleep. 🙂 But I have a paranoia about “the call at midnight” and have always slept with my phone under my pillow so that if I EVER do get that call, I can answer it! I know. Bizarre. So that 4 am sms woke me up. Which was a good thing, because #3 was feverish and I took the opportunity to bathe and medicate her, and watch Martha Steward on TV. Ha ha ha.

So if it happens again tonight … I’m all ears! *grin*

    • all that electro-magnetic waves so near your head must not be good you know? 🙂 Hope #3 is better!

  2. Maybe because you said you’d see me in church in sunday! haha. Looks like God really has a sense of humour. 🙂

anyhoo, eternity is really THE best. Cheap and good. After 8 months, only my eternity ones have stood the test of time (even with baby pulling and pulling while feeding). The expensive ones have all died.

  3. oh my…i had that nightly contractions for about 3 weeks straight before i finally birthed last year! Qt tiring bc i couldn’t sleep then.

  4. –> hah i sleep w ph under pillow too. bc its my alarm. And then if it rings, hopefully the pillow muffles the sound and doesn;t affect the bb waking up.
