The Building Up Moms Story
When I answered the call to start blogging back in 2005, it was to write and share what I have learnt to not just survive but thrive as a then new homeschooling mother of 5 children, aged 7 and below.
As I slowly got into the swing of things, the Lord prompted me to focus not just on sharing but to actively encourage mothers in the trenches of motherhood. Especially Christian stay-at-home-mothers.
And so, Building Up Moms was born in 2006.
What can you find here?
I write to offer encouragement to weary moms. Regardless of the season of life you are at. Because motherhood can be a lonely and exhausting ministry call. It is also a largely unseen ministry. Encouragement and appreciation is always needed.
So, do you need encouragement on
- homemaking matters?
- homeschooling issues?
- family challenges?
- health woes?
- faith matters
Or do you just want plain ole encouragement to keep on keeping on? Check us out!
If nothing else, I can commiserate together with you on how hard this mothering thing is! And offer you hope in our Lord who has given these children to us to raise for His Kingdom and His glory.
While ALL mothers are welcomed here, whether you are a full-time, part-time, married, single, Christian or non-Christian, I am unabashedly a Christian, a Christ follower of Jesus.
Therefore, some of my posts will contain faith statements. But there are also posts that do not. I am just putting this out here so that it is out in the open.
So who am I?
I am Serene, wife to Henson (brohenson.org) and homeschooling mama to David, Sarah, Aaron, Esther, Ruth, Deborah and Anna. They range in ages from 19 down to 8.
Yes, we do have a large family.
Henson is the founder of Archippus Awakening a ministry dedicated to awakening the saints to fulfil their assignment in the Lord. You can find out more about our ministry at Archippus Awakening, or get the book, Say To Archippus.
Two of the seven children have graduated from our homeschool. The oldest is serving National Service and has secured a place at NUS by the grace of God. The second is waiting to apply to NUS when it opens doors for applications in the category we are applying under.
The rest are still being homeschooled, using either Abeka Homeschool Academy for High School or our local MOE syllabus for the Primary levels.
And at the moment, the entire family worships at FGA Singapore.
Not an expert but a fellow traveller
Just remember as you read the posts that I ain’t no expert in anything! Not even my own children. I don’t have all the answers but I know someone who does! So, I will keep pointing you back to Him. He made us, He made our children and then He gave them to us. So back to Him we go for answers!
